A Simple Small Business Checklist

(Stock image)

Scenario 1: Just Getting Started

You have:

  • A business name

  • A Facebook page

  • A few customers

  • People asking for information

Check all that apply:

☐ My business has a logo or consistent branding

☐ Customers can easily find my phone number

☐ Customers can easily find my hours

☐ Customers can easily find my location

☐ I have a Google Business Profile

☐ I have recent photos of my products, services, or business

☐ I have a website

☐ My website works on mobile devices

☐ Customers can contact me online

If you checked fewer than 6 boxes, start with the basics: Google Business Profile, quality photos, and a simple website.

Scenario 2: I Have a Website, But It Isn't Helping

Ask yourself:

☐ My website is updated regularly

☐ It works well on mobile devices

☐ It loads quickly

☐ My services are clearly explained

☐ My contact information is easy to find

☐ My photos are current

☐ Visitors can easily take the next step

☐ My website appears in Google searches

☐ I can tell whether people are visiting my site

☐ I receive inquiries from my website

If you're not receiving inquiries or customer actions, your website may need updates rather than a complete redesign.

Scenario 3: My Website Is Fine, But Nobody Knows We Exist

Check all that apply:

☐ I post on social media consistently

☐ I update my Google Business Profile

☐ I share photos of my work

☐ I promote events and specials

☐ I collect customer reviews

☐ I respond to online inquiries

☐ I have a marketing plan

☐ I know who my ideal customer is

☐ I know which marketing efforts are working

☐ My online presence reflects my business today

If you're struggling with visibility, your next step may be marketing rather than website development.

Scenario 4: I'm Overwhelmed and Don't Know Where to Start

You're not alone.

Many small business owners know they should be doing more online but aren't sure which steps will have the biggest impact.

Instead of trying to do everything, focus on these priorities:

  1. Google Business Profile

  2. Professional photos

  3. A clear, mobile-friendly website

  4. Consistent social media updates

  5. A simple marketing plan

Running a business requires wearing a lot of hats, and marketing is only one piece of the puzzle. If this checklist helped you identify a few areas for improvement, start with the items that will make it easier for customers to find you, understand what you offer, and take the next step. You don't need a complicated strategy—you just need a clear direction and a plan that fits your business.
